I'm mostly reading the astonishingly gripping Gibbon (Decline & Fall) but when I can't stay awake or go to sleep, I've had fun with Maisie Dobbs, detective & psychologist. I like novels about World War I (both of my granddads fought, on different sides) & I like mysteries. These feel like a glimpse into the world of my grandparents' generation. I also like the thread of mysticism. And I'm more interested in women investigators.

Gibbon is amazing. A while back I started to look for a really good edition and then, as usual, my attention was diverted like the parakeet that lives in my head! I've got one of those Mentor Classics or something similar with tiny print that runs to the inside edge of the center so that you have to practically destroy the binding to get a readable look at the tail end of a line. I want something hefty like his content with a type style big enough to read without using a magnifying glass!

I am reading it on the Kindle for exactly that reason ~ I no longer can manage really small print, nor do I want to tote hefty tomes. Kindle is great for that, though no underlining or commenting & you don’t have the satisfaction of seeing your progress by the bookmark. And lack of a physical book makes it even easier to get distracted & never get back to it. Even the most compelling book is easy to lose track of if I’m reading it electronically. So it’s a tradeoff, for sure.
